The Foundry

The Foundry is designed to create sustainable and community-oriented affordable and supportive housing units for the Mott Haven community. The project prioritizes placemaking and cultivating social connections at two levels. At the neighborhood scale, The Foundry takes the opportunity to connect to the neighborhood’s historical buildings through its façade design and massing with unique brick detailing and variations in height. On the street level, the ground floor is set back to widen the sidewalk, allowing shaded open spaces for interaction and passive activities. Benches beneath street trees extend opportunities for socializing, forming a cohesive public space in front of the building.
